PHA History

Physician-Led Healthcare for America (PHA) was founded in 2001 as the stakeholder voice for physician-owned hospitals. Originally known as the American Surgical Hospital Association, the organization changed its name to Physician Hospitals of America in 2006.

PHA’s board of directors identified the need for an organization to represent physician-owned hospitals, other physician-led facilities, physician-led practices and other physician-led initiatives, such as bundled payment models. In response, the PHA board voted in January 2022 to change the name of the organization to Physician-Led Healthcare for America so that the organization can serve as the voice for all physician-led initiatives.
